Story Time for Kids Enjoy dramatic readings of the best in new and classic kids books along with hands-on activities. Ideal for kids ages 3 to 7, but all are welcome. 11 a.m. to noon. University Book Store (University District).
Thursday, June 8
Explore the Beach with Naturalists Join volunteer naturalists during low tide on the beach to learn about Puget Sound's multitude of marine plants and animals. Offered at several beaches on many dates through August. 10 a.m. to noon. Golden Gardens (Ballard), Carkeek Park (Broadview), South Alki Beach (Alki), Seahurst Park (Burien), Lincoln Park (West Seattle), Richmond Beach (Shoreline), Saltwater State Park (Des Moines).
Tugboat Story Time Listen to stories about boats and the sea aboard the Arthur Foss, a 100-year-old tugboat. After stories, there is time to explore the boat. This is an indoor/outdoor activity; dress accordingly. Ages 2 to 5. Not intended for preschool groups. 11 a.m. to noon. Center for Wooden Boats (South Lake Union).
Story Time at the Farmer’s Market Buy fresh produce and goods (3 to 7 p.m.) during opening day of the Lake City Farmer’s Market. Then, enjoy story time and songs with Librarian, Nancy P. right in front of the library 6:30 to 7 p.m. Lake City Library (Lake City).

NOAA Open House Learn more about how the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration works to understand and predict changes in Earth’s environment. Activities include science presentations and panels, interactive exhibits and tours. Adults must bring a valid photo ID to gain access to the campus. Noon to 6:30 p.m. NOAA Western Regional Center (Sand Point).

Kids’ Fishing Pond Kids ages 14 and younger can come catch a fish. Cane poles and bait provided. First come, first served. 8 to 11 a.m. Seacrest Park (West Seattle).
Shilshole Boatfest Enjoy the water with sailing lessons, boat rides, and tours. Plus, enjoy live music, inflatables, lawn games, vendors, and food trucks. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shilshole Bay Marina (Ballard).
Festival Sundiata: Black Arts Fest Celebrate African-American culture, history and art with performances, art exhibit, marketplace, food and more. Noon to 9 p.m. June 10, noon to 6 p.m. June 11. Seattle Center Armory (Lower Queen Anne).
