10 Camps for Kids During Winter Break

A week at home in the middle of the winter, with nothing to do and rainy weather outside, is many a parent's worst nightmare. That's why we have to warn you: winter break is right around the corner and the kids will be home for two weeks before you know it. Don't let the madness of cabin fever happen to you this year. Keep everyone happy (and sane) by enrolling the kids in one of these entertaining day camps.

 

Pacific Science Center

Give your curious little minds a chance to explore and experiment with hands-on projects at this popular day camp. Topics range from coding and video games to space travel, winter survival in the great outdoors, busting science myths, art using nature as a medium and even lessons for budding young entrepreneurs. 

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: Pacific Science Center, 200 2nd Ave. N., Seattle, and Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center, 1625 118th Ave. SE, Bellevue.
Who:  Ages K-8

 

SANCA Circus Camp

The School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts has camps that will teach your kids the finer points of tumbling, aerial arts, juggling, the trapeze and more. 

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: 674 South Orcas St., Seattle
Who: Ages 6-14

 

Watts Basketball Camp

This ultra-popular holiday hoop camp is run by Seattle Super Sonics legend, Slick Watts. Kids will have the chance to work on the fundamentals of the game and learn teamwork at the same time. 

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: Salvation Army White Center, 9050 16th Ave. SW, Seattle, or Villa Academy, 5001 NE 50th St., Seattle. 
Who: Grades K-8

 

Seattle Children's Theatre

​This drama school will teach school-aged kids the ins and outs of stage makeup, improv, auditioning, Shakespeare, stage combat and more. 

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: Seattle Children's Theatre, 210 Thomas St., Seattle
Who: Grades 1-12

 

Seattle Gymnastics Academy

Kids will love a chance to get the wiggles out at the Seattle Gymnastics Academy—from the foam pit to the trampolines, there is no shortage of ways to have fun here. In addition to group games and activities during camp, there will also be crafts. Half and full day camp options. 

When: December 18-22 (Lake City location) and December 27-29 (Columbia City and Ballard locations)
Where: All three locations
Who: Ages 3-12

 

Seattle Children's Museum

Expand their horizons with this day camp that will lead kids to discover about other cultures and traditions from around the world—from Kwanzaa to Diwali and beyond. There are also options that involve STEM activities. 

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: Seattle Children's Museum, 305 Harrison St., Seattle
Who: Ages 4-10

 

Woodland Park Zoo

Winter or summer, camp at the zoo is an all-time favorite. During winter break this year, kids will have a chance to study Animal Senses and Habitats of the World. Half day camp available for kids ages 4-6.

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: Woodland Park Zoo, 5500 Phinney Ave. N., Seattle
Who: Ages 4-9

 

Dizzy's Winter Wonderland Camp

Celebrate the cold, snow and holidays at this popular camp. Activities include dancing, singing, jumping, playing, tumbling and learning, of course. Half day options available. 

When: December 18-22
Where: Dizzy's Bus Stop, 3205 148th Ave. SE, Suite F, Bellevue. 
Who: Ages 3-8

 

Arena Sports

Burn off all that extra holiday energy by keeping them active all day long at one of the Arena Sports camps. Half day camp available for ages 3-5. 

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: All five locations (Magnuson, Issaquah, Redmond, SODO and Mill Creek)
Who: Ages 3-12

 

Kids Science Labs

They'll still be learning even though they're not in school at this camp for science enthusiasts. Innovative projects and fun hands-on experiments will also show them how fun learning can be.

When: December 18-22 and December 26-29 (two sessions)
Where: Kids Science Labs, 405 NE 71st St., Seattle
Who: Ages 4-12
