Ages: 2 1/2-5
Fremont Community School is a Waldorf-inspired preschool offering a nature and play based learning environment for children ages 2 ½ through 5. Fremont Community School (FCS) serves as a bridge between a child’s first years at home and his or her forthcoming years at school. Our program is flexible and individually paced, encouraging your child’s independence and imagination. Here, children cross the bridge at their own pace through the medium they enjoy the most: joyful, explorative play!
FCS operates in a warm, loving, home-like environment that serves as a bridge between home and a larger world. Guided by a reverence for life and natural rhythms, teachers guide the children as individuals to learn about the world and their relationship to it. Children spend most of their time outdoors engaging with nature and caring for our farm animals (pig and hens). Through imagination, creative indoor and outdoor play, repetition, and movement children develop their own natural joy, compassion, appreciation for beauty, and love of learning.
• Learning about the world and relationships through imaginative, creative play
• Empowering children to discover their physical selves by spending lots of time outdoors—rain or shine
• Cultivating an appreciation of beauty through nature and art
• Embracing seasonal changes with songs, stories, art, handwork, puppet shows and festivals
• Slowing down the pace of everyday life and allowing children to be children
FCS’ preschool program is 5 days per week (9am to 1pm) between Sept. and May. Activities include bread baking, watercolor, animal care, story-telling, Spanish, outside play and songs that reflect our seasonal themes, projects and festivals. Children spend at least an hour a day outside in a fully enclosed yard which provides room to run, climb, dig and move their bodies. Play and work come together as children garden, care for the school’s animals: pig and hens. The children collect eggs each morning and help prepare organic snacks & lunches. Kids learn to be aware of what they are eating and where their food comes from.
FCS offers an afternoon child care program (1:00pm - 5:00pm) 5 days per week between September and May. This hourly program uses the same facilities and philosophies as the morning program, but the structure and rhythm are looser.
