Description:

Committed to shaping a community that fosters creative confidence, Lake Washington Girls Middle School (LWGMS) opened its doors in 1998 as the first secular girls middle school (grades 6-8) in Seattle. We encourage girls to take risks, explore leadership, solve problems, collaborate, and stand up for themselves and others. Our innovative curriculum is designed to educate the whole girl—intellectually, socially, and emotionally—with a focus on integrating social justice and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) curriculum.

We serve students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds within the greater Seattle area—from Lynnwood to Renton and from West Seattle to Sammamish—with an emphasis on central and south Seattle neighborhoods. Our staff of 29 currently serves 118 girls annually. Historically and currently, LWGMS is one of the most diverse independent schools in Seattle—diverse in terms of students’ race, ethnicity, economic status, and family configurations.

Almost 30% of our students receive financial assistance.

LWGMS is on the cusp of a game-changing move: moving into a permanent new home – at 2100 S Walker St, Seattle, WA 98144 – with spaces specifically designed to enhance programming and promote better learning for this generation of L-Dub girls and the next, with:

• A science lab, art classroom, and STEAM studio
• A performance space with a stage and tech booth
• A school commons that will serve as a lunchroom and hub of the building
• A big, green space for outdoor classrooms, community gatherings, and running around and playing
• And a full gymnasium where we can have PE, hold sports practices, and host games

Our new, modern spaces will foster greater collaboration among teachers and students, and allow us to provide more hands-on and experiential learning experiences to our students.

Please join us for one of our Open Houses – held in our current home – this fall. Attending an Open House is an excellent way to get to know L-Dub, its program, and its people. Meet with students, teachers, and administrators, and learn how our academic and co-curricular programs may be a good match for your family.

No RSVP is required, but registration is appreciated.
The program does run for approximately two hours, so please arrive no later than 6p.
