Fremont’s Bluebird soda fountain serves homemade ice cream scoops and sundaes, plus floats made with soda brewed fresh in kid-approved flavors like snickerdoodle. Grab a stool at an authentic, 80-year-old gooseneck soda fountain from a pharmacy on Second and Yesler that owner Josh Reynolds had painstakingly sourced and restored to its original glory. 3515 Fremont Ave. N, Seattle. bluebirdseattle.com
Start with a fudge brownie swirl sundae and end with a game of pinball during a dessert run to Full Tilt’s White Center flagship. The ice cream chainlet’s U-District, Ballard and Columbia City outposts also buzz with kids licking big, fun flavors like peanut butter and jelly and horchata. Plus vegan picks — and plenty of old-school video games. fulltilticecream.com
A cookbook and five locations later, Molly Moon Neitzel is credited with kicking off the specialty ice cream craze that’s swept Seattle in recent years. Some flavors, like balsamic strawberry and salted caramel, haven’t changed since day one. Others rotate seasonally, like blueberry lemon custard, orchard blondie, blackberry sorbet and vegan coconut raspberry. mollymoonicecream.com
Lick Pure Cream opened last summer in the then ice-cream-underserved South Lake Union. Go for comfort food in frozen form; flavors change seasonally but include sweet potato pie and mango mascarpone. Or try a LICKwich — basically, it’s a messy ice cream sandwich pressed between a thin sliced donut. 434 Yale Ave. N, Seattle. lickpc.com
Located off the beaten path in Ballard, Parfait makes its cones, toffee and sundae sauces in-house. Pair toppings with scoops of rosemary pine nut brittle, Meyer lemon or nectarines and cream. Plus, push pops! 2034 NW 56th St., Seattle. parfait-icecream.com
