Free Mindfulness Meditation Classes for Teens

Each spring and fall, the Seattle Insight Meditation Society offers a four-week Teen Mindfulness Meditation Class. The classes are free of charge and are for high school teens, especially mature middle school teens. The next series begins on March 3.

The classes give teens a foundation in secular mindfulness meditation: learning to relax and ground oneself, to know the difference between experiencing life and being on autopilot, to observe what is happening inside oneself, to offer kindness and acceptance to oneself, and to pause before automatically reacting to a situation.

The spring series runs on Monday evenings, March 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Classes are held at the Keystone Church, located at 5019 Keystone Place N. in Seattle. Instructor Krista Gemmell Harris, MFA, Laban Movement Analyst, is an experienced insight meditation practitioner; a certified Teen Mindfulness Teacher; an InterPlay leader; dance educator; and mother of two adult children.
