Frosty Fun: Ice Skating

Grab your skates (or rent them!) and cruise around a seasonal ice skating rink. Most are part of other holiday festivities, so you can make a whole day of it with yummy treats, music, shopping, and more. If you’re not too sure about skating, the rink in Bellevue offers lessons on select dates.


Seattle Area

Winterfest Ice Rink
Part of Seattle Center’s Winterfest with ongoing activities through the New Year, this rink is located inside the Fisher Pavilion. Light concessions available.


When: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday

11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday

11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Dec. 31

Where: Seattle Center, Fisher Pavilion, 305 Harrison St.

Cost: $8 adults, $6 children. Price includes skate rental.



Bellevue Magic Season Ice Arena
Located in Bellevue Downtown Park, this open-air arena offers concessions and music from local radio station, STAR 101.5. There are special hours for stroller skate and skating lessons on select dates.


When: Various Hours through Jan. 15

Where: Bellevue Downtown Park, 10201 N.E. Fourth St.

Cost: $14 adults, $10 ages 8 and younger; and military. Price includes $4 skate rental.


Redmond Town Center
While there’s technically no ice in this synthetic rink, your skates will work just like you’re on the real thing. This covered, outdoor rink is part of Redmond Town Center’s holiday festivities, which include a carousel, a train, live music, and Santa.


When: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday    

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 1

Where: Redmond Town Center, 7525 166th Ave. N.E.

Cost: $7 ages 3 and older.


South Sound

Point Ruston Ice Rink
The Grand Plaza Fountain is frozen and transformed into a holiday rink featuring live music and DJs on select dates, a visit from Santa (Dec. 23), concessions, and a holiday bazaar.


When: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday

        10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday

        10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 25

        10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31

        10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 1

Where: Point Ruston Grand Plaza, 5005 Ruston Way, Tacoma

Cost: $12.50 adults, $9 ages 10 and younger, military, seniors
