Hey Day bringing burgers and bowls to Mt. Baker
Sister restaurant Geraldine's Counter.
Mt. Baker families rejoice: Hey Day is headed for the neighborhood. The new project from Gary Snyder is slated to open in time for summer. It’s the second restaurant for Snyder, who also owns Geraldine’s Counter in Columbia City. Snyder says he’s bringing on Melissa Nyffeler (who owned the wonderful Dinette on Olive Way) to develop the menu.
Burgers? Check. Snyder says that in addition to hormone-free beef topped with Bavarian Meats bacon, he and Nyffeler are experimenting with different kinds of meat patties. Also, “really healthy bowls” that will be topped with vegetables and protein, and shakes—of the virgin and boozy variety.
A father of seven-year-old twins, Snyder lives a few blocks from the new construction that will house Hey Day on 31st Ave. and Day St. “When they put the building up I kept eyeing it, hoping for a good restaurant to go to with my kids,” Snyder says. He ended up getting in touch with the owner and signing a lease.
Kids will be welcome in the dining room that fills half of the space, which seats 75. A large bar that seats 30 will occupy the other side of the room and serve cocktails and appetizers. Plus, a dozen seats outside. Look for Hey Day to unlock its doors this June or July.
