Meat-free in Seattle? 3 Places to Eat w/ kids w/o Meat

The original Yumm bowl at Cafe Yumm

Whether you’re trying to cut down on your family’s meat consumption, or you’ve been a longtime vegetarian, in Seattle we’re lucky to have a wide range of high-quality vegetarian restaurants. Here are three family-friendly spots for Meatless Mondays and beyond:

Veggie Grill

With three locations around Seattle, Veggie Grill is meat-free, dairy-free and GMO-free, but certainly not flavor-free, offering a comprehensive menu of bowls, salads, and sandwiches packed with hearty ingredients and fresh new flavors. The quinoa & veggie burger and the mac-n-cheese are standout kid favorites, and the Bombay bowl is a protein-packed tasty option to keep busy parents going until bedtime. With many gluten-free options, Veggie Grill gives everyone a chance to “celebrate the vegetable.” Various locations, veggiegrill.com

Wayward Vegan Cafe

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served all day at this local Roosevelt cafe, so bring the family at any time for pancakes and killer biscuits, or to try their “meat”ball sandwich or the excellent tempeh reuben. There’s a separate menu for the gluten-adverse, and with their generous portions and very reasonably priced kids menu (everything is $4), a family meal out is not going to ding the wallet too much after an expensive holiday season. 801 NE 65th St., Suite C, Seattle, waywardvegancafe.com

Café Yumm

Though not a meat-free restaurant, all of Café Yumm’s menu items start as vegetarian options, making it an easy pit stop for the meat-free crowd. They offer many kid-friendly bowls of organic brown rice and beans with a wide range of gourmet toppings, and their proprietary (and delicious) Yumm! sauce; for less adventurous eaters, they have PB&Js and grilled cheese sandwiches as well. Finish the meal with one of their organic chocolate chip cookies and your kids will never be happier to finish their vegetables. 717 Pine St., Seattle, cafeyumm.com
