Museum of Flight offers free memberships for kids 5-18; here's how to get one

Museum of Flight

If you’ve got a kid who is interested in all things aircraft and spacecraft, let them take flight through the Connections program at the Museum of Flight. This educational membership program is designed for kids ages 5-18 and comes with benefits like unlimited free visits to the museum for the student and one adult, invitations to exclusive events and opportunities, early registration to select education programs,  access to the Alaska Airlines Aerospace Education Center and its network of educational support tools, and of course, plenty of chances to learn about the exciting world of aerospace and aviation.

There are two ways to get connected.

The first option is to sign up at an educational program. Anyone ages 5-18 who participates in one of the selected educational programs at the museum is eligible to join Connections. Some of the programs include Aerospace Camp Experience, Private Pilot Ground School, Women Fly, Washington Aerospace Scholars, and the Michael P. Anderson Memorial Aerospace Program.

The second option is to attend a Connections event. Select events include Connections enrollment, and the next one is Maker Night on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Maker Night has more than a dozen hands-on activities that allow students to explore, tinker, investigate and make their own original creations that teach them more about science, technology and engineering. Activities are designed for students of all ages and will include robotics, 3D design, magnetic slime and more. Pre-registration is required, and dinner is included, for $14 per person. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The next Connections event is Free First Thursday on October 4. Free First Thursday happens every month (and Museum of Flight is among numerous participating local museums), but Connections enrollment is only available on select First Thursdays. Head to the museum, do an educational activity, and then you’ll be eligible to join Connections: no registration or ticket purchase necessary and admission is free.

More questions about the Connections program should be addressed to connections@museumofflight.org or call 206-768-7239.
