Green space can boost learning, study suggests

School may be out, but here’s something to consider, especially if your kids are taking summer classes someplace. A recent study suggests that green space around a school can boost children’s learning.

The research tracked 2,593 schoolchildren in the second to fourth grades of 36 primary schools in Barcelona, Spain, between 2012 and 2013.

“Researchers tested students repeatedly over the course of a year on attentiveness and working memory, which is the ability to keep something in mind temporarily for performing a task,” The Associated Press reported. “Overall, students whose schools were surrounded by more green space improved more than pupils from schools with less green space.” The study said that green space may help partly because it reduces air pollution.
