Parent Buzz: Check how many kids are vaccinated at your school

A measles outbreak that originated at Disneyland and now a fresh confirmed case in King County has pushed vaccines to the top of the news food chain. The Seattle Times looked at vaccine rates as reported by local schools in King and Snohomish Counties. You can find a story and an interactive map that shows which schools have a vaccine exemption rate of at least 10 percent. That’s the threshold for concern because a 90 percent vaccination rate is need to create “herd” immunity to protect those at risk for a highly infectious disease such as measles. Find a searchable database here.

Seattle’s Child has an excellent article about vaccine-hesitant parents and why immunizations outweigh the risk. A recent study about parents who don’t vaccinate found that there’s basically nothing you can say to parents against vaccines that will make them change their minds.
