As a month-long campaign in Seattle to eliminate plastic straws comes to an end, According to KOMO News the conservation group Lonely Whale Foundation said they have so far eliminated 2 million plastic straws in the past month, with help from Seahawks' quarterback and Seattle straw thief Russell Wilson as well as actor Adrian Grenier.

The organization's campaign, "Strawless in Seattle" was the first of 10 cities where the group plans to launch a social media campaign to get rid of plastic straws and replace them with marine-degradable straws mostly made of paper.

The foundation revealed that Wilson was the Seattle athlete behind the city's disappearing plastic straws, which was featured in a public service announcement for Strawless in Seattle.

According to a news release, because of the success of almost 200 Seattle businesses, venues and restaurants that participated in eliminating plastic straws, Lonely Whale Foundation announced 19 more candidate cities for its 2018 Strawless Ocean tour.
