Strengthening Families Washington 2017 Unsung Heroes Lynsey and Cody Bilbruck

Unsung Heroes Lynsey and Cody Bilbruck

Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Early Learning’s Strengthening Families Washington. Every day this month we'll present an Unsung Hero on seattleschild.com. Nominations are accepted from around the state and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes - outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.

February 16, 2017

Honoree:  Lynsey and Cody Bilbruck, Oroville

Nominator:  Autumn Martin

Cody and Lynsey Bilbruck are an amazing foster family with many gifts that they model by the work they do and the knowledge they acquire in taking care of children.

The Bilbrucks have long encouraged seasoned foster parents to endure through trying situations. They have motivated community members to begin the process of foster parent licensing. They have joined retention and recruitment, and represented foster parents at the State 1624 meetings. With all their commitments, they also know that sometimes family means more and they have to let these other duties go at times, picking them up again when they can.

During the past year, the Bilbrucks welcomed back a sibling group of three after the children suffered the loss of their biological mother whom the Bilbrucks had assisted with reunification the first time. For nearly a year the Bilbrucks have helped this sibling group grow and heal from their loss. They have recently completed their transition to a forever home with a relative in another state to whom the Bilbrucks opened their home for overnight stays and bonding opportunities.

Lynsey and Cody have drawn on their own families near and far for support, as well as their church and other community coalitions. As the Bilbrucks re-adjust their own blended family of birth children, second adoptions, international adoptions and other children in their home, they could use some encouragement themselves as the Unsung Heroes they are.
