Strengthening Families Washington 2017 Unsung Heroes Stephanie and George Flores
Unsung Heroes Stephanie and George Flores
Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Early Learning’s Strengthening Families Washington. Every day this month we'll present an Unsung Hero on seattleschild.com. Nominations are accepted from around the state and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes - outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.

Honoree: Stephanie and George Flores, Yakima
Nominator: Lindsay Huck
Stephanie Jones-Flores is the assistant principal at Ridgeview Elementary. She is caring and supportive to all of our 700+ students. Four of our students and their 4-year-old sibling were recently taken out of their home by Child Protective Services. Stephanie did not want to see these kids get separated and placed into foster care. She and her husband George stepped up and took all five children into their home! For months now, they have provided the kids with love, support, food, shelter, clothing, toys, and much more.
I nominate Stephanie and George for the Unsung Hero Award because I think it takes an amazing person to open up your home and your heart to needy children. It must be so overwhelming to go from a family of two to a family of seven literally overnight! They are doing it with such grace and love and are definitely heroes to these 5 kids and to all of us at Ridgeview Elementary.
