Tacoma day trip: Point Ruston is family-friendly with food, fun and great views



Minutes outside of Tacoma lies Point Ruston, the perfect Pacific Northwest pocket of fun.

It's a resort-style shopping, dining and residential community built on the former Asarco smelter site.

Little ones can enjoy ride-on toys and a milelong walkway featuring panoramic views of mountains framing Commencement Bay. City-hop in seconds atop a beautiful mural of Puget Sound and grab lunch at kid-friendly Fish Brewery Pub & Eatery.

From I-5, take I-705 exit through downtown Tacoma, follow onto Schuster Parkway to North Ruston Way, go 3 miles. 

Also nearby: downtown Tacoma, Point Defiance Zoo.
