Unsung Hero: Ann Miszczak
February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.
Seattle’s Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children’s lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle’s Child will highlight each and every one.
Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 2
Ann Miszczak - Vancouver
I would like to nominate Ann because she has embodied all of the strengths. Ann is a mother of three and from September 2013 through June 2014, she was also a homeless mother.
She now has a stable home with her husband and her youngest is in her last year of ECEAP. She is ESD 112's Policy Council Chair; she is also a part of PAG (Parent Advisory Group) for DEL/DCYF.
Not only does she give to her family and community, but she started a home-based business to help support her family of seven. She also has overcome two decades of struggles with mental health this past year. She has taken parenting classes to learn how to best support her children and shares that knowledge with other parents in the Clark County Community.
