Unsung Hero: Crystal Moore

February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.

Seattle’s Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children’s lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle’s Child will highlight each and every one.

Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 21

Crystal Moore - Centralia

I nominate Crystal Moore for the Unsung Hero Award because she is a stellar example of parenting. She is a mother of two little girls, ages 2 and 5. She understands early childhood development and uses them to guide her children to be resilient in ways that she did not know in her own turbulent childhood. Her actions with her own children are a shining example to other parents in the program that struggle with parenting.

She is often seen with an arm around another parent as she encourages them, supports them, and empathizes with the day-to-day hardships of parenting. Crystal is an advocate for children and their needs. She attends parenting education classes to strengthen her knowledge and uses that for the good of children. She not only works many extra days at the preschool to make sure that children are receiving every chance for success; she also holds the Treasurer position on the Board of Directors.

I greatly esteem Crystal and the work she is doing with her own children and others.

Nominator:  Bobbi Chapman
