Unsung Hero: Erika Thompson, 'amazing' caregiver to more than 100 foster kids

Meet this Tacoma woman and others who are being honored for their selfless efforts on behalf of children.

Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington.

Nominations are accepted from around the state and and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes: outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.

Erika Thompson (Tacoma)

Erika and her husband provide not only amazing care to children as foster parents (serving over 125 kids in the past 10 years), but they also run the Wishing Well in Pierce County, which offers clothing and other child-related items to families including biological parents when children are reunified

Erika also provides support to other out-of-home providers (relatives, suitable others, foster parents) through Olive Crest, an organization helping abused and neglected children.

Erika works to establish holiday support as well including food for families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
