Unsung Hero: Julia & Moises Palomares

February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.

Seattle’s Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children’s lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle’s Child will highlight each and every one.

Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 27

Julia and Moises Palomares - Tenino

These grandparents are raising 3 grandkids. I met the grandma when she was looking for information about non-parent custody. I admire her willingness to go through all the obstacles and language barriers that the systems (CPS, DSHS, courts, etc.) were putting them through.

They didn't care—the only thing they wanted, was to keep their grandkids safe. Julia asked questions, got informed about resources and involved herself very much, going everywhere, so she could have the knowledge to keep her grandkids safe.

Moises works hard every day, so these kids can have everything they need. It is a very hard emotional and financial situation, but they keep it up, and their grandkids are thriving very much at home and at school. They are provided with love, care and a safe environment by their grandparents.

They are heroes!

Nominator:  Rosa Venancio
