Unsung Heroes: Tricia & William Hughes 'do so much for the babies in their care'

Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington.

Nominations are accepted from around the state and and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes: outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.

Tricia & William Hughes

Tricia and William (of Spokane) have gone above and beyond for the medically fragile baby I have placed with them.

In just a few days having the baby in their care, I saw a completely different baby than what I saw in the PICU. He was making eye contact, sucking on a binkie, and rooting, all things doctors never thought he would be able to do.

He has developed such a strong bond with Tricia already and is instantly soothed at just the sound of her voice. Tricia has met every one of his extensive medical needs including giving up a full month of her time with her family to stay in his hospital room in Seattle after he underwent a very serious heart procedure.

They never expect anything in return and do so much for the babies in their care. I know that without them this baby would not be anywhere near he is today.

Nominated by: Sara Simpson, social worker
