What to do with all of that Halloween candy?!?

Halloween is a truly scary time for tired parents and dentists alike, but there are a few tricks you can use to balance out all those treats while helping others, too!

If you’re keeping the candy around, Delta Dental of Washington recommends chocolates over sticky and chewy candies, and taking control of the evening’s loot for a more moderate plan of disbursement: a few pieces after meals and followed by a glass of water. See more tips on their page.

If you want to avoid having piles of candy around for weeks on end, you should consider one of the local programs working to turn that candy into a little relief for troops overseas and first responders here at home.

* You can participate in or organize a GIVE-Back through Operation Gratitude , which puts together care packages for veterans, first responders, wounded heroes, and their caregivers. Check out their page to register a collection drive  or find a drop-off near you.

* You can participate in a BUY-Back through The Halloween Candy Buy Back, which offers a network of dental offices that will buy back your unopened candy (around $1 per pound up to a cap) and then ship that candy in care packages overseas through a partnering organization. Check their link as lots of dental offices around the state are participating, but here are a few offices in the Seattle area:
