Woodland Park Zoo offering lower-cost admission options for families

In an effort to make the zoo available to a wider audience, discounts will be offered to families on certain public-assistance programs.

Woodland Park Zoo

Woodland Park Zoo is launching new, lower-cost admission options for families who qualify for certain public-assistance programs.

It's part of an effort to expand the zoo's diversity and inclusion program and to spread its conservation message to a wider audience.

Here's how it works:

  • A $5 daily admission ticket, called the Discover Ticket, will be available for recipients of Washington Quest/EBT and/or WIC assistance. Starting Sept. 4, an individual or family can receive $5 admission per person for up to six individuals in the same family. Proof of eligibility is required and can include a Washington Quest card or WIC appointment folder and photo ID. The program is to run through March 31, 2019.
  • The deadline already has passed for an additional program the zoo launched: The new $35 family membership, Explorer Pass, will offer free admission for up to eight individuals to the zoo year round for current recipients of Washington Quest/EBT and/or WIC assistance. These memberships are limited to the first 2,000 who apply through a special application process open through August 30 or until all passes are claimed.

In the coming year, these programs combined are expected to double access to the zoo for families in need. The zoo already offers free passes through its partnerships with local agencies and nonprofits. The zoo also participates in the Seattle Public Library Museum Pass program to provide free passes to the zoo.
