Critics: School Lunches Too Fatty, Salty, Sugary

U.S. school meal programs still whip up lunches that are too heavy on fat, salt and sugar, and students’ choices are limited by what’s in vending machines, cafeterias, school stores and snack bars, nutrition experts say in a series of articles published by the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

Experts believe that unhealthy eating in schools is contributing dramatically rising obesity rates among American children.
