Researchers who have often struggled to recruit enough people with autism to participate in their studies are having an easier time these days because of a Web site that launched two years ago.
The Interactive Autism Network, or IAN, is a research-oriented Web site created by the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, with funding from the nonprofit advocacy group Autism Speaks.
More than 10,000 families have registered with the site, and it’s growing
When families register with IAN, they fill out an extensive questionnaire that goes into the database. Families also can choose to participate in specific studies, either online or in person.
