Giddy Up, Camel

Get up close – up high – and personal with a camel this summer at Tacoma’s Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Three new camels, named Mojave, Duma and Ruby, recently arrived at the zoo from Australia. You can ride them for $5 from June 20 through September.

Point Defiance is the only zoo in the Pacific Northwest to offer camel rides. (It’s also the only combination zoo/aquarium in the Northwest). Up to three people can ride a camel at one time, so it makes a great photo op.

IF YOU GO

Where: Located in Point Defiance Park, 5400 N. Pearl St.
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through September
Cost: $5 per person, in addition to zoo admission
