Fife residents may now benefit from full library services from the Pierce County Library System. Earlier this month, voters passed a measure with a 69 percent approval for the City of Fife to annex to Pierce County Library for services.
The annexation means people in Fife may get a free Pierce County Library card now at any of the Library's 17 locations or online at www.piercecountylibrary.org. With the library card, Fife residents may check out books, DVDs, audiobooks and other materials, as well as reserve materials online and pick them up at any library.
The library card will also give residents access to free online services including, downloadable audio and e-books, online homework help, job and career assistance, and many other e-sources with magazines, newspapers, personal investment information and more.
Starting in January 2010 the Library will bring the following services directly to Fife:
Books, movies and music on the Library's bookmobile.
Books and movies to Fife childcare facilities.
Books, audiobooks and other materials directly to people who are homebound and older adults.
Books, movies and ESL materials in Spanish.
By June 2011, Pierce County Library will open a library in Fife. The Fife Pierce County Library will offer full library services, six days a week. In the 6,000 square foot Fife Library people will be able to gather in a meeting room, access the Internet on public computers, get help to prepare children to read and do homework, and gather in comfortable seating areas.
The Library now serves all of unincorporated Pierce County, including Bonney Lake, Buckley, DuPont, Eatonville, Edgewood, Fife, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Milton, Orting, South Prairie, Steilacoom, Sumner, University Place and Wilkeson.
