Congratulations Unsung Hero: Curtis Treadwell
February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.
Seattle’s Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children’s lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle’s Child will highlight each and every one.
Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 15: Curtis Treadwell - Spokane Valley, WA:
Curtis is a single father to two wonderful kids. He volunteers his time to help our ECEAP program by serving as the Policy Council President, and as our Room Parent. He thinks of fun and engaging activities for the kids in our classroom. Curtis is always offering assistance to other parents both in our class, and in other classes. He has given rides to school and home, and most recently, gave Christmas gifts to a family in our class. The girl’s mother was in tears as she told me that he showed up at their house on Christmas Eve with several gifts. The little girl thought that they were from Santa. He knew where they lived because he had taken them home when they didn’t have transportation. Curtis is a shining example of true kindness and generosity. He just works quietly behind the scenes to help others in need. I would love to see his efforts recognized.
