Green Plate Special’s mission is to empower youth to engage with food through gardening, cooking and eating. The organization educates kids about food production and consumption at their school-year and summertime camps and classes, focusing on gardening skills, food science and nutrition. Kids who participate not only hone their gardening and cooking skills—they often can take their culinary creations home with them.

Green Plate Special offers multiple ways to get involved: weekly planting and weeding events in their garden; kitchen and garden instruction; and assisting kids at the Green Plate Special farm stand. Green Plate Special partners with local organizations and nonprofits like Seattle Parks & Recreation (as well as a number of private schools in the area) to put on their diverse programs.

Green Plate Special offers two summer camp sessions for kids ages 10 to 14. The first runs from June 22-26 and the second from August 17-21, both from 10 am to 4 pm daily. Camps cost $350 for five days but are priced on a sliding scale to accommodate families’ financial needs; registration ends Friday May 29.
