February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.
Seattle’s Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children’s lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle’s Child will highlight each and every one.
Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 4
Aaron Joseph – Gig Harbor
My husband, Aaron Joseph, is the most compassionate, loving, hardworking person I have ever met. Over the last three years we have been foster parents to many children and it is so special to be able to share the experience with him. He cares for and loves every child wholeheartedly and treats them each as his own, regardless if they are placed with us for the weekend or forever. He is passionate about helping others and making the community the best, safest place for the children. For the last eight years he worked as a police officer, and for the last three years in a high school. His relationships with local youth are very important to him. When he worked patrol he would stop at the parks and play basketball with the kids, or pull over to a group of children to show them the police lights and give them all stickers. He has worked in the worst of neighborhoods and formed relationships with the community throughout these interactions. His friendly, outgoing personality makes him very approachable and it is an honor to be witness to the life he leads. Aaron is truly a hero, professionally and personally, and definitely deserves recognition for the amazing impact he has on our community and its youth.
