Description
The Puget Sound Puppetry Festival will host multiple events Sept. 29-30, 2023, primarily at the Carco Theatre in Renton. The festival welcomes visiting puppet artists Pinned & Sewtured (Calle Allende) and Matt Sandbank’s Shadow Factory (Still life) and will feature a new local performance The Socks on my hands Puppet Slam.
Note that most of the main performances are intended for adult audiences, however "Still Life" is recommended for ages 10+.
Aside from the main performances, activities will include youth puppet crafts, a teen/adult shadow
puppetry workshop, a reception, and a screening of Frights and Delights, a Heather Henson Handmade Puppet Dreams collection.
Calle Allende, an exploration of Frida Kahlo’s psyche inspired by her diary entry and painting “The Two Fridas,” by puppetry company Pinned & Sewtured is a vivid piece of visual theater informed by Kahlo’s distinctive style of painting, Calle Allende brings to life Kahlo's internal struggles with the prospect of fading inspiration. Calle Allende is recommended for audiences aged 14+ for adult themes of pain, death, and miscarriage. Performed in English and Spanish.
Still Life, “Still Life “ is a collection of wordless shadow shorts that surprises and delights audiences with visual storytelling! Still Life is appropriate for all ages but recommended for ages 10+
Socks on my Hands Puppet Slam, What is a puppet slam? It is a collection of short-form works of
puppetry focused on entertaining an adult audience. It's a wonderful place for artists (new and
experienced alike) to experiment and workshop new works to an encouraging audience.
