Free Last Friday at SAAM
Location
Seattle Asian Art Museum at Volunteer Park
1400 East Prospect
Seattle, WA 98112
Description
Free Last Friday at SAAM is when the Seattle Asian Art Museum, located in Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill in Seattle, has free admission on the last Friday of every month.
It's a safe bet that the highlight of your child's visit will be climbing up on the Ming-era camel sculptures at the entrance outside the museum. (These are reproductions of the originals. The originals stood here for years, but major wear - largely from children “riding” the camels” - resulted in the originals now being indoors at the main downtown SAM.)
However, with no admission charged at Free Last Friday at SAAM, this is a good time to venture with your child into the exquisitely Art-Deco building, which reopened in 2020 after an extensive remodel. Explore the extensive Asian art on display and don't miss the splendid view looking east into the park at the back of the second floor of the museum.
Once your young museum-goers have reached their limit, the playground at the end of the park is a great place to let off energy and in the summer the grand wading pool next to the playground is open daily (providing it reaches 70 degrees outside).
