Getting there:
he shows are at 2 p.m., but when you are depending on traveling by ferry, it's best to plan to be early. The Kitsap Forest Theater is located 15 minutes from the Bremerton Ferry dock on Seabeck Highway, off of the Chico Way exit from Highway 3 and is a mile above Country Nursery. It is easily accessed from the Olympic Peninsula, Tacoma, Olympia and points south and is accessed by ferries or the Tacoma Narrows bridge from the Seattle/Everett areas.
It takes about 1 1/2 hours to drive from Seattle via the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Taking the ferry takes about 1 1/2 hours (without factoring in the ferry wait), depending upon which ferry you take. The theater is about 35 minutes from the Kingston or Bainbridge ferry terminals. During spring and summer days, especially when the weather is nice, plan on getting to the ferry line early. You may have to wait for a ferry or two. There is typically less wait at the Seattle/Bremerton run than the Edmonds/Kingston run.
Check ferry schedules here.
The driveway to the property is just beyond the large theater sign that you see on the right ā the driveway to the Kitsap Forest Theater is on the left side of the highway just before the long guardrail..
There is parking at the entrance to the trail and across the road as well. Wear comfortable non-slip shoes for the 10 minute walk down the sloped, winding forest trail,The trail to the theater opens at 1:00 pm ā shows start at 2:00 pm.
The only "real" restrooms are at the trailhead near the ticket booth. The theater has very steep, stadium-style seating. If you have stadium seats or cushions, bring them. They do have a limited number of cushions at a rental booth.
About the theatre:
While the musical show is certainly the heart of the experience, don't miss out on all the extra treats on the side. The theater is nestled in a 460-acre Rhododendron Preserve. Even if you are not up for serious hiking, you can learn more about the preserve by visiting the Kitsap Yurt, which houses photos and information. Additionally, the entrance to the trail to the theater features giant display boards with photos and the history of the Mountaineers Players.
Mountaineers have been performing in the same forest-canopied spot since 1923. One of the oldest nonprofit theater groups in the country, the Players troupe performs in the midst of the 460-acre Rhododendron Preserve near Bremerton.
