LIVE Virtual Events Picks for June 29 – July 5

Celebrate Fourth of July week with painted fireworks, a family singalong campfire, an Independence Day 19k, and learning about fire safety at home!

Summer has officially arrived! It’s Fourth of July week in Seattle, and we’ve got you covered with at-home activities to celebrate. Join in this week for a fun sing-along campfire party, painting fireworks with toilet paper rolls, and Redmond’s Derby Days! Plus, get crafty with projects from Bellevue Arts Museum, join a virtual Independence Day fun run (or walk, bike, swim, etc.) and learn about fire safety at home with fun, easy, DIY activities.

Monday, June 29
Redmond Derby DaysThe Auburn Derby Days are virtual this year, and available to anyone who’d like to join! This event lasts through July 11, and allows for participants to join a family bike challenge and parade, play bingo, enter an art contest, and much more. Access at your convenience through July 11. 

Tuesday, June 30
PJ Library Song & Story Time. Join Betsy and friends for a fun, beloved storytime online each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning. Dance, since, read, and move around with friends on Zoom. Live at 11:30 a.m. 

Wednesday, July 1
NatGeo Explorer ClassroomGo on a dinosaur dig, explore amazing plants and animals, study organisms, and so much more. Each Wednesday & Thursday morning join the Explorer Classroom with National Geographic for an exciting and educational experience. Live at 11 a.m. 

Thursday, July 2
Painting Fireworks!  Do some upcycling to create art from items around your house, like toilet paper rolls! And we’ve all stocked up on plenty of those, of course. Make painted fireworks with friends while listening to stories and songs. Pre-register. Live at 1:15 p.m. 

Friday, July 3
Family Campfire Sing Along. The day before the 4th is a great time to cozy up with family for a virtual campfire celebration! Sing, play games, hang out, and learn some classic camp and folk songs with Sing Along leader Eva Moon. Live at 2 p.m. 

Bonus 4th of July Family Event
Independence Day 19K Fun Run, Walk, Hike, Bike, or whatever you want! Join your family or a team of friends (safely, because it’s virtual!) for a movement activity of your choice for 19km of fitness and fun! Pre-register. This event runs from Fri. July 3 at 7 a.m. through Sun. July 5 at 7 p.m. 

Saturday, July 4
Get Crafty with BAM. Join Bellevue Arts Museum each Saturday for free, family crafting fun. Each week features a different theme, like paper plate jellyfish, tissue paper sun-catchers, homemade watercolors, and more. Follow the link to access all archived lessons. Live at noon. 

Sunday, July 5
Seattle Aquarium Live Otter and Seal Feedings. Watch as Seattle Aquarium staff feed the otters and seals, and also see them lounge and play. And, have you heard the Aquarium has reopened with COVID-19 precautions in mind? Exciting news. Daily feedings happen throughout the day and times listed can vary by about 20 minutes. 

Bonus ANYTIME event!
Learn about FIRE SAFETY during Fourth of July Week!  Make a glowing campfire craft with LED lights, and make a tasty campfire snack with marshmallows, pretzel sticks and dried fruit. Plus, learn how to safely make a backyard campfire and then toast some s’mores! What a great way to kick off a fun summer at home.
