Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington.
Every day this month we'll present an Unsung Hero.
Nominations are accepted from around the state and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes: outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
Naomi Nichols, Poulsbo
Naomi Nichols is an Unsung Hero to me as she has shown a continual commitment to supporting foster parents and foster care.
She is the president of the Kitsap Foster Care Association and has done an excellent job of finding activities for foster families to enjoy and participate in. She also has done a great job of working with the community to inform of the importance and need of foster parenting, working with organizations such as the North Kitsap Rotary, Hansville Garden Club, Kitsap Steamers and Grace Point Church.
She works well with DCYF social workers and gets them involved with activities for foster families. Naomi is a great leader and she does it by example.
