Seattle’s Child is proud to partner with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington to honor outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children. Throughout February, we’ll introduce you to Unsung Heroes from around the state. Enjoy their stories.
Leah Legee, Puyallup
Leah Legee is an exceptional parent, mentor, and community leader whose resilience and dedication have transformed her family and the broader community.
After facing the possibility of losing her children to adoption, she worked hard to reunify with all three of them – using every tool and lesson available to build a stable, nurturing home. Shortly after reunification, Leah joined the Parents for Parents (P4P) program, where she immediately became an effective parent ally, supporting families navigating the foster care system.
Her dedication and skill quickly led to her being hired as the P4P coordinator for Pierce County. Her leadership continued to shine, and she was soon recognized by Akin (formerly the Children’s Home Society) and was promoted to supervise the P4P program in Kitsap County. Due to her remarkable results, she now has been entrusted with leading the program in three additional counties all while continuing to mentor parents, supporting her staff and nurturing her own children. Her lived experience, empathy and unwavering commitment to strengthening families make her a true Unsung Hero!
