Seattle Center Monorail

The iconic World’s Fair Monorail runs every day, every 10 minutes between Seattle Center and Westlake Center. One-way fares are $2.25 for adults and $1 for ages 5 to 12; kids 4 and under are free. Cash only. seattlemonorail.com

Seattle Streetcar

From the uber-hip South Lake Union neighborhood to everything downtown has to offer, hop on and off this 1.3-mile line and explore restaurants, retail and Lake Union's 12-acre waterfront park. seattlestreetcar.org

Sounder Train

Mostly a commuter train between Lakewood, Seattle and Everett, Sounder runs weekday mornings and afternoons only, in addition to major weekend events such as Mariners and Seahawks games. Adult fares are between $2.75 and $5.25, depending on how far you travel. Children under 6 ride free. soundtransit.org/Rider-Guide/Sounder-train

Link Light Rail

A low-cost, convenient way to get to Sea-Tac, or simply to explore SoDo or Columbia City for the afternoon. Trains run every 8 to 15 minutes depending on the time of day. Adult fares are $2.25 to $3, depending on how far you travel; kids under 5 are free. soundtransit.org/Schedules/Link-light-rail

Amtrak

Get off the beaten path of I-5 and take the Amtrak Cascades for a weekend adventure in Vancouver, B.C., or hop on the Coast Starlight for a relaxing, scenic trip to Portland. Costs vary depending on the day of the week, and the total fare for a family of four will most certainly surpass a tank of gas, but why put a price tag on a car-free adventure? amtrak.com
