From Thursday, September 17 through Friday the 18th, hit up MOHAI for a celebration of opening day and the start of their fall exhibition, The Legacy of Seattle Hip-Hop.
The event is curated by Seattle natives Jazmyn Scott and Aaron Walker-Loud, and features the sights and sounds of Seattle's hip-hop scene. The exhibition showcases audio recordings, photos, art, artifacts, and other cultural artifacts from the Seattle hip-hop scene.
The exhibit focuses on both the music iconic to the region and the cultural elements that run parallel to the genre: graffiti art, DJing, breakdancing, emceeing, and music production.
MOHAI notes that "the exhibit will bring the first-person narratives and experiences of Seattle performers and artists to the forefront, creating an intimate and human look at this dynamic art form."
On Thursday, hit up the History Cafe event at 6:30 pm, a free event that brings Dr. Daudi Abe, historian and academic who studies culture, race, gender, education, and hip-hop, to speak on the Seattle hip-hop community.
On Saturday the 19th from 10 am to 5 pm, attend MOHAI and take part in the many hip-hop-centric events happening during the day:
