Three locations, thousands of artworks, and endless opportunities for kids to explore, create, and play. At the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), discover galleries filled with surprises, get in on the action with free community programs, and encounter monumental sculptures and interactive installations. At SAM, curiosity is encouraged—and there’s something for every age to enjoy.
Kids under 14 get free admission and you can return again and again to our three sites: the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Asian Art Museum, and Olympic Sculpture Park. Our locations are also surrounded by some of the best attractions Seattle has to offer. Pair your family visit with a trip to Pike Place Market, a picnic in Volunteer Park, or a stroll along the waterfront.
Whether you’re looking for a rainy-day outing, a weekend adventure, or a chance to experience something new, there’s always something happening across our three locations. Here’s what’s on now:
Family programs
We host family-friendly programs across our three sites—all year long. These events invite kids (and their adults) to create, move, and play through art. The best part? These programs are free!
Free Family Saturdays (Oct–May, downtown; Mar–May, Olympic Sculpture Park): Every first Saturday of the month, enjoy art making, storytime, and performances in our public spaces, plus family-focused gallery tours.
Summer at SAM (Jul 9–Aug 2, Olympic Sculpture Park): Get outside, play, picnic, and create! Our summer series in the park features Sunday activity days and Thursday evening concerts.
Body + Mind (Jan–Mar, Olympic Sculpture Park): Warm up in the winter months on Saturday Activity Days with movement classes, art activities, and silent reading on select dates.
Community Celebrations: Holiday festivals like Lunar New Year, DÃa de los Muertos, and Diwali celebrate tradition through art-making activities, live performances from community partners, and storytelling experiences.
Mini Golf at Olympic Sculpture Park
Looking for a summer activity that gets everyone outdoors? This summer, the Olympic Sculpture Park becomes something entirely new: a nine-hole mini golf course designed by artists. Bring your family to the park, where you’ll encounter playful, site-specific installations by Seattle-based artists inspired by the landscape, the city, and the spirit of play. Along the way: waterfront views, iconic Seattle scenery, and plenty of unexpected twists. Your kids will love it. Bonus: children under age five play for free! Open noon–8 pm, Wed–Sun. Runs through Labor Day
A Room for Animal Intelligence
Meet the largest wolf, mouse, and mosquito you’ve ever seen at our downtown location. Animal lovers won’t want to miss A Room for Animal Intelligence, with artwork featuring 100 animals from across the globe. Spanning various decades, styles, and regions—these animals come alive through labels written from the animals’ point of view—and all at a kid-friendly height. (Around the corner, keep an eye out for an astronaut, a caterpillar/man, and two performers in Unruly Suits, an installation about the power of what we wear.) Runs through January 31, 2027
