The Valley School is a Pre-K through grade 5 school in Seattle’s Madison Valley where learning is joyful, growth is supported, and community is celebrated. Valley students develop core academic and social-emotional skills that prepare them for middle school and beyond. We meet the needs of our students through both whole-class instruction and smaller, flexible groupings. Students know each other and their teachers well, and teachers respond to individual and group emergent interests. We believe that each student has their own unique intellectual and social developmental path, and we offer a variety of types of instruction and practice in order to meet those needs along the way.
Our faculty and staff are experts who value students’ voices and the importance of childhood. We’ve designed the typical Valley School day around developmentally appropriate practices, including plentiful time outside. In addition to academics, our program promotes healthy growth in students through a social and emotional curriculum, deliberate community practices like our Buddy Program and All School Meetings, time spent outdoors, and a low-stress environment where students are known and supported.
Our 20,000 square foot outdoor space offers a myriad of opportunities for children to express creativity and explore the world around them, whether they are building forts, picking and sharing fruit with friends, feeding our chickens, or playing organized games like gaga ball. Children learn by doing, so we use play and exploration as catalysts for learning. We’ve dubbed our playground “The Second Classroom” because so much student development and learning happens there. Playful work and purposeful play are at the heart of our mission and our community.
Come visit the Valley School and see how a small, intentional community can have an incredibly positive effect on your child’s development and your family’s sense of belonging.
