Edible Book Festival, Third Place Commons., Sat 11-3. Free. This gives the term 'voracious reader' a whole new meaning. Create an edible masterpiece and enter it in this fun competition, or just come and admire food inspired by  books. Tasting commences post-judging. shorelinearts.net

Art Exploration, Seattle's Children Playgarden, Sat 10:30-12:30. Free. Kids with special needs and their families can expand their horizons in art with hands-on adventures. Ages 3-6 at 10:30 and ages 7-13 at 11:30. Pre-register. childrensplaygarden.org

Caspar Babypants Concert, Neptune Theatre, Sat 10:30 a.m. A fantastic venue for a fantastic performer. Eat a good breakfast. You will need it as you dance the morning away to original, catchy, clever tunes. $6. free babes in arms. stgpresents.org

Youth Sailing Open House, Mt. Baker Rowing & Sailing Ctr, Sat 11-3. Free. Learn about sailing camps, classes and trips for kids. Plus fun knot tying, origami, burgee decorating and bbq on land. Sailboat rides weather permitting. nwyouthsailing.org

Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat, Secondstory Rep, Sat/Sun 1 & 3 thru April 19. This mischievous feline in a  striped chapeau causes trouble and fun where 'er he appears, don't you know? Come watch the onstage silliness of Dr. Seuss' most beloved character. secondstoryrep.org

King-Snohomish County Regional Spelling Bee, Town Hall Seattle, Sun Noon. Free. Middle-schoolers from King & Snohomish Counties compete for a chance at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Cheer on these kids as they amaze and inspire you with their talents. townhallseattle.org
