Erika's weekend picks: Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival, Adventure Playground, and free First Saturdays at SAAM

Four on the Fourth 4K Run/Walk, Sat 7:30 a.m. Ashwood Park Bellevue. While they might not enjoy the fireworks, your four-legged favorite friends will love this event. Grab the leash and your pooch and head to Bellevue for a fun 4K run or walk. Costumes encouraged with a doggie costume contest at 10:15 a.m. Fire truck, inflatables and more fun for the kids afterwards too. $30-50. Free ages 12 and younger. Naturalization Ceremony, Sat 11-1 Seattle Center Fisher's Pavilion. Free. Celebrate Independence Day with our newest citizens as they are sworn in from around the world. Fun concert at 11 a.m. Ceremony at noon. seattlecenter.com

 

Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival, Center for Wooden Boats. Fri-Sun 10-6. Free. Watch regional boat builders at work, tour local wooden vessels, take a free boat ride, and try your hand at crafting a toy boat. Music, food, exhibits and more. The Center for Wooden Boats

 

Adventure Playground, Deane's Children's Park, Mercer Island, Sun 1-4. Free. Kids get toolboxes, building supplies and an open space to attempt, create, build and imagine. Awesome! Open Tues, Thurs and Sun thru Aug 28. Closed-toe shoes required. City of Mercer Island – HOME

 

Pocket Beach Exploration at Olympic Sculpture Park, Sat/Sun 11:45-3 p.m. FREE. Beach naturalists will guide you through the beach at low tide. See what treasures you can discover. Waterproof footwear recommended. Seattle Aquarium

 

Free First Saturdays for Families, Seattle Asian Art Museum, 11-2. FREE. Take part in a themed drop-in workshop, dress-up in traditional costumes, sketch your own art in the gallery and enjoy a special performance or family-friendly movie. Fun for all ages. seattleartmuseum.org
