Explore low tides with Seattle Aquarium’s Beach Naturalists

Ask questions and discover a world under the sea

Get ready for a hands-on summer adventure your family won’t forget! The Seattle Aquarium’s Beach Naturalist program returns this season, offering a unique opportunity for families to explore local shorelines during the lowest tides of the summer, with expert guides leading the way.

Beginning at the end of May and running through July, Aquarium-trained Beach Naturalists will be stationed at beaches across the Seattle area, ready to share fascinating facts about the creatures that live just beneath the surface. From crabs and moon snails to barnacles, sea stars, and shorebirds, the low tides reveal a new world waiting to be discovered.

What makes this experience even more special? It’s free, family-friendly, and designed to help visitors of all ages explore the beach responsibly, ensuring that marine animals and their habitats are protected while we learn from them. This year, the program is bringing back its popular volunteer-led “Pods,” offering small-group engagement and plenty of time to ask questions and get close to the marine life we often overlook.

Families leave with knowledge, wonder, and a new appreciation for the Puget Sound shoreline. To find out when and where Beach Naturalists will be out this summer, visit Seattle Aquarium’s website.

Pack your water shoes, curiosity, and camera — and prepare to be amazed by what the tides reveal!
