Frye Art Museum and Yesler Community Centers' RecTech Program have collaborated on an upcoming exhibition that brings to the forefront the challenges facing Seattle youth, with particular emphasis on juvenile detention and the disproportionate rates of youth of color being referred to juvenile courts, as well as the construction of a new youth jail.
The exhibition, Why Not School?, poses the question, "Why not invest in schools rather than juvenile detention?" The exhibition was created by six Seattle students during a series of after-school sessions at Yesler Community Center, creating graphic art and social media content about the pressing issues facing youth in Seattle, particularly youth of color and low-income youth.
The exhibit runs until January 10.
