Seattle's 37th annual Lake Union Boats Afloat Show kicks off on Wednesday, September 16 and runs until Sunday, September 20. This boat-centric weekend event is chock-full of cool events to keep kids entertained.

Toy boat building

The Center for Wooden Boats hosts toy boat construction on Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th from 10 am to 6 pm. Kids can build and decorate their very own wooden boat!

Free sailing lessons for kids

Sail Sand Point Sailing School is offering free sailing lessons for kids from 8 to 16 during the weekend festivities. Sign your kiddo up beforehand by sending an email to Kirsten here and set them out to get their sea legs; make sure to arrive ten minutes beforehand so that kids can get fitted for a life jacket.

Lessons take place on Friday the 18 at 1 pm, 2:30 pm, 4 pm, and 5:30 pm for entire families. Saturday and Sunday lessons are at 11 am and 12:30 pm for kids only, and 2 pm, 3:30 pm, and 5 pm for entire families.

Nab a free life jacket

Head down to the waterfront on Saturday and Sunday to receive a free kids life jacket while supplies last.
