Seattle residents: How to get city funds for your neighborhood project or event

Got an idea to enhance your neighborhood, but you need some cash to pull it off?

You may be in luck, as the city of Seattle is launching another round of its Neighborhood Matching Fund program, which since 1988 has provided matching dollars for improvement projects, defined as anything from festivals to playground upgrades and even Night Out block parties. (National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 6, by the way.)

Deadline is Sept. 9 to apply for the Community Partnership Fund, which provides up to $25,000. The Small Sparks Fund, which provides up to $5,000 per project, will accept applications on a rolling basis through Oct. 31.

Projects must involve the community, be free and open to the public, be feasible and ready to begin quickly, demonstrate community’s ability to match funds, and occur within Seattle city limits.

Here are some upcoming Saturday workshops to help interested groups apply. (Each session is from 10-11:30 a.m.)

  • July 27, Miller Community Center, 330 19th Ave. E.
  • August 3, University Heights Center, 5031 University Way
  • August 17, South Park Community Center, 8319 Eighth Ave. S.
