The million-dollar view of Seattle's skyline is awfully nice. Then there's the bright, casual fenced-in patio, a kid-sized table, the Hawaiian-Korean eats, the shave ice. And did we mention all this is adjacent to a full bar?
West Seattle's Marination Ma Kai is co-owner Kamala Saxton's solution to feeling homesick for Hawaii. The breezy ma kai (waterfront) restaurant offers an expanded menu of the beloved grub served from its namesake Marination Mobile food truck, including kalua pork sliders, kimchi fried rice, and kid-favorite miso ginger chicken tacos.
Ma Kai is comfortable for all ages by design, Saxton says. "One of my favorite things is tables of whole families — kids, grandparents, cousins, from 2 to 95, and their dogs. All are welcome."
Getting there is fun as well. Zoom over from downtown Seattle via the King County Water Taxi. The restaurant is just steps away from the dock and the Alki Trail. It's just as fun in reverse: Grab lunch at Ma Kai, then board the water taxi for an easy commute to the Seattle Aquarium, a Sounders match, or other downtown fun.
