Strengthening Families Washington 2016 Unsung Hero: Monty Richman

Monty is a true hero because he has stepped up to provide a stable second parental figure for his grandchild, Kimber.

February 7, 2016

Honoree:  Monty Richman

Nominator:  Katie Lawless

Monty is a true hero because he has stepped up to provide a stable second parental figure for his grandchild, Kimber.   Since her birth he has committed to traveling  from his home (230 miles round trip) to spend the week taking care of Kimber. He is a tremendous support to his daughter, Kimber's mother, providing her with all the things listed in the Stengthening Families 5 Protective Factors

I became acquainted with Monty when I met the family as an Early Intervention teacher.   He quickly became a part of Kimber's intervention team. He is learning about child development and practicing everything that has been suggested to make Kimber's home even more enriching.   He is a constant encourager for Kimber, his daughter, and the other therapists on the team.  He demonstrates great compassion and kindness.   He is always positive.   He is making a huge difference for his grandchild.

Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by  the Department of Early Learning’s Strengthening Families Washington. Every day this month we'll present an Unsung Hero on seattleschild.com.   Nominations are accepted from around the state and and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes – outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
