Sabin and her husband Dan epitomize the description of the Five Protective Factors. They have adopted three children that they had provided foster care for in their home, in addition to parenting their biological son. They are active volunteers at the school, vital leaders for the PTA, supporters within their church, and provide outreach support to other parents and neighbors.
Sabin is intrinsically in-tune with the unique strengths and needs of her children, holds high expectations, but meets each child at the their current level. She encourages each of her children to embrace their strengths and unique spirit, and take setbacks in stride, looking for opportunities for growth.
When her husband was unemployed for a few months, the family looked at the benefit of having both parents home more, and then she launched a home-business. She is resilient, caring, devoted and empathetic toward people from all walks of life and all backgrounds. Her sense of humor and grace are instantly evident.
Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Early Learning’s Strengthening Families Washington. Every day this month we'll present an Unsung Hero on seattleschild.com. Nominations are accepted from around the state and and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes – outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
