On Monday, The 5th Avenue Theatre hosted high school students from across the state to celebrate their accomplishments in musical theater. Wells Fargo and Alaska Airlines sponsored this year’s 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater, the 13th annual production of the event. The ceremony, modeled after the Tonys, handed out awards in 21 different categories ranging from the production of the musicals to the event’s lobby displays.
18 different schools took home awards, and no school dominated the night, a “testament to the high quality work being done in schools all across Washington State,” according to the 5th Avenue Theatre. The winningest schools of the night were Camas High School, which took home the award for Outstanding Overall Musical Production for their production of Cabaret; Bellarmine Preparatory School, Ferndale High School, Glacier Peak High School, and Lewis & Clark High School.
Thanks to the sponsorship of Alaska Airlines, the 5th Avenue Theatre will be able to send the student recipients of the Outstanding Actress and Actor awards, Hannah Sulak of Ferndale High School and Andrew Hensen of Camas High School, to the National High School Musical Theatre awards in New York City.
